Silver City 03:33
On my way to Silver City Was a man I meant to see Drivin' through the Black Range Mountains When it all came back to me You said meet me by the river We would start our brand new life Your daddy swore you were his treasure You would never be my wife Chorus A thousand tears fall in the darkness A thousand times I've wondered why How it hurts now to remember I'd forgotten how to cry They said he tried to stop you You ran out into the night Seven miles down that highway When I saw those flashing lights On my way to Silver City Fightin' back those memories Lord I've tried but I can't outrun them Guess they'll always follow me

Sanctuary 03:26
Where do you go with a brand new foal? Ground froze solid 'neathe the blowing snow Sanctuary Fought off the coyotes, fooled a lion Got Black Hawk Creek in the back of her mind Sanctuary, Sanctuary Chorus There's a southside pocket where the rimrock's ending Cheat grass, water and a sun ascending If her colt's gonna make it his life's depending On Sanctuary Morning breaks pretty on the canyon floor A place that she's been looking for She tests the wind until she's sure It's Sanctuary Chorus

You need two cups of cornbread, finely ground Make sure it's white when they mill it And then some oil, about an inch deep Real hot, but not smokin' in the skillet Four spoons of flour, a teaspoon of salt Then you pour from that whistlin' pot Two cups of boiling water Be careful, don't you spill it Now comes the tricky part, you gotta add the water To all that dry stuff you got And the only way to do it is to put our hands in it Do it quickly, 'cause it's hot Drop 'em in the skillet when they're round Turn 'em over once they're brown Feeds four hungry people, and that's a lot Chorus Hot water cornbreat, my grandma's cornbread I see her in the kitchen, oh, I miss her so I hear my grandma saying "Bless my soul" It takes me back to childhood Sunday mornings Grandma singing in some mystery key I hear my daddy saying "Rise and shine, you lazy cowboy" Someone's in there cooking up a special treat for us to eat And I know just what he's talking about so I jump out of bed It's gotta be my grandma's sweet cornbreat Chorus Now I ain't had any hot water cornbread since I I grew up and moved away 'Cause the doctors nowaways say if you eat that fried stuff There's gonna be hell to pay Well, I guess they're right but here's what I think If you spend your life trying to be in the pink You don't really live any longer, it just seems that way Chorus My grandma used to say "Bless my soul"

She stood on the corner, lost in time Trying to get back, to somewhere in her mind "Mister, can you help me find the place I'm looking for? I am waiting for the bus to Baltimore." Pale blue dress, neatly pressed, nothing out of place Snow white hair, coal black eyes, a sweet angelic face "I' really got to get back home, I've got so many chores So I'm waiting for the bus to Baltimore." "That's where my two precious babies sleep Where Dad and Harvey decorate the tree Ruth still has a fever, Cathy scrape her little knee They need me." Then a younger woman came, took her by the hand "Have you been telling stories, Mom, to this nice young man? The house we had in Maryland burned down in '64 Still she's waiting for the bus to Baltimore." 'Cause that's where her two precious babies lie asleep Where her daddy decorates the Christmas tree Ruth has move to Philly, now all that's left is me And she needs me Sometimes late at night on the edge of sleep I think about that sad, sweet woman on the street And I wonder if she found the peace she was longing for Oh, I hope she found the bus to Baltimore

An ol' rusty nail stole the air from my whitewall tire A black cat on a ladder crossed the moon And I counted 13 steps from where you threw my mirror I don't think I'm comin' back to you Tried not to notice when you stepped upon that sidewalk crack It didn't have to mean our love affair was doomed But you laughed at me, and said I'm too damned superstitious I don't think I'm comin' back to you Chorus You tossed my lucky boot You replaced it with that chicken foot I'm tryin' to figure out exactly when I lost control A hurricane has wrecked my car, my pool is missing from my back yard Hell, my dog's even starting to look like Marie Leveau Now I think about it, since the day that you moved in here My little parakeet's turned awfully mean and cruel And just last night my goldfish nailed me with an evil eye I don't think I'm comin' back to you Chorus Woke up this morning had this awful pain there in my neck I saw a doll that looked like me danglin' from a noose You can have my house, I left the keys out in the mailbox I don't think I'm comin' back...I'm pretty sure I'm not comin' back... Ain't a chance in hell I'm comin' back to you

Grady 04:19
Grady walked the two miles into town most every day With his funny jerky gait, it seemed he galloped all the way With his baseball cap on backwards, he’d sail into the wind He was always on the outside, we wouldn’t let him in The boys down at the fillin’ station said that he was touched He hid a grin behind his hand, he didn’t talk that much Mama used to say “You kids, leave that poor man alone” But we’d follow him and giggle, sayin’ “Grady, sing your song” Chorus Grady would dance for a penny While he sang “Those Oklahoma Hills Where I Was Born” I carry this picture of old Grady Even thought it’s getting kind of worn The edges are raged and torn Grady roamed the alleys, it made some people mad Was he peeking in their windows, seeing what they had Lots of folk were sayin’ they should put that boy away They thought he was liable to hurt someone someday I remember the day it happened, I was comin’ home from school The banker’s baby daughter had fallen in their pool Grady saw it happen…he climbed the fence and he plunged right in He saved her life but he gave his…he never learned to swim Chorus I wish you could have seen the funeral they had for old Grady He even got his picture in the paper My dad cut it out and gave it to me…said he was a hero Chorus The boys down at the fillin’ station said that he was touched And he was, by God

I’ll Waltz you home, I’ll waltz you home Come to my arms little darlin’ And I’ll waltz you home Here we go dancin’ again we know this old tune by heart We know how this fight’s gonna end the moment it starts One step leads to another as sure as the night leads to day When one of us tries to get closer, the other one dances away Chorus Sometimes when lovers get angry They don’t mean the words that they say When harsh words get spoken it’s too late to take them away Let’s stop the music a minute…. see if we can’t change this song Come to my arms little darlin’ and I’ll waltz you home Chorus Solo Bridge We’re spinnin’ and whirlin’ in danger of losing control But our love is so strong.. it’s lasted so long We’d be fools to let go I don’t want a new partner and I can’t face dancin’ alone So come to my arms little darlin’ and I’ll waltz you home Chorus twice and tag

The old man said it's in the canyon It lives up there behind the mountain (and) Every branch of every pinon tree Maybe I was just too young then Too damned smart and way too dumb then It took me all this time to finally see Chorus Everywhere I go It's underneath my skin It's more than I can know And it's always in the wind Lightning streaks across the desert I hold you close, wetry to measure How long 'til the thunder makes the sound Sometimes it can rain forever First a drop, and then a river And sometimes it don't even reach the ground Chorus Quaking aspens in the Fall A song in the morning A lonely coyote crying at the night The laughter of a little girl Dust devils in the distance Heat waves in the noon day sun New fallen snow The smell of her hair The moon sitting up there on the mesa Bluffs rising up like ships on the horizon After the thunder sleeps Before the wind begins Chorus Hozh'q....Hozh'q...

On the levee by the lazy Mississippi When that sun goes down Cresent City starts to cookin' We'll add a pinch of me and you To that old French Quarter stew 'Cuz it don't matter who do voodoo In New Orleans, only in New Orleans If you want music it's there on every corner Dancin' in the streets They got them taps nailed to their sneakers You can Dixie-Land or blues it, all you gotta do is choose it You got a problem you can lose it In New Orleans, only in New Orleans Bayou ladies, they're tall and tan and sassy My head turns clear around Every time one sashays past me If you can't find love down there you can't find it anywhere 'Cause there's magic in the air down in New Orleans, only in New Orleans Oh my plane left yesterday But I'm still here to say Laissez le....Bon Temp Roulez In New Orleans, only in New Orleans Laissez le....Bon Temp Roulez Only in New Orleans

He loved the game of poker, that's how I knew him best By that time he was older, there was a cloud upon his chest And if he won or lost his expression never changed John was a student of the game He wasn't much of a husband, he was married to his work There were millions who loved him and a precious few he hurt He was a man of vision who saw the world in frames John was a master of the game Chorus And I saw Sierra Madre when I was just a kid Somehow I had to find out how he did the things he did His Red Badge of Courage, his African Queen He taught me about life, casting shadows on a screen No full house was showing the night John Huston died Just faithful Maracella was sitting by his side He found her hand and raised it high A champ at the final bell The last thing John said was "Give 'em Hell" Chorus He loved the game of poker, that's how I knew him best By that time he was older, there was a cloud upon his chest And if he won or lost his expression never changed John was a student of the game 5. I've Lost My Touch (J. Cox) Had the world in the palm of my hand Back then I was a cocky man And I followed my every hunch Can't place where it all went wrong But now I'm singing me a different song Oh, no, I've lost my touch I can't buy a break I don't have a dime And that don't get me peace of mind She used to make my day But then she walked away Oh, no, I've lost my touch When I was on a roll Arrogance took its toll I trusted my luck too much Now I spin down, down, down On a crash course with the ground Oh, no, I've lost my touch Everything that ever comes my way Shining bright like a piece of gold When it hits my hands it's a lump of coal I used to make her sigh Today she passed me by Oh, no, I've lost my touch Oh Lady Luck please hear my prayer Don't turn your nose up in the air Because I need a favor from you Please send a seven for these dice Or a better weapon than a knife To cover me if I should lose I can't buy a break Because I don't have a dime But right now I need to buy some time She used to ride my arm Now she's sent me into harm Oh, no, I've lost my touch Oh, no, I've lost my touch

Facts 03:23
Mars is red, Saturn in yellow Pluto used to be a planet... now it's not Venus is the only planet not named for a fellow Ergo she goes backwards and she's hot Sir Fredrick William Herchel loved to scan the skies Came upon an object he could not identify He called it Georium Seidus, his colleagues thought that heinous So the worlds greatest minds changed it to Uranus. (we're talking facts ) Ooh name the brightest planet ... and which one has the fastest winds Which planet spins the quickest on it's axis.. and which one emits more energy than it takes in? (these are the facts) Ain't no life on Mars, just a bunch of rustin' robots MakeMake has no atmosphere Ceres has fresh water ... even more than we got A Venus day is longer than it's year Jupiter's the biggest, with a massive storm a ragin' Three hundred years and still goin' strong Mars has giant dust storms... Saturns signs are icy Mercury and Neptune..... Mercury and Neptune... Are not mentioned in this song.

Let her go… say goodbye No excuses, no alibis She’s gone away Against the wishes of my heart Late night…. I lie here and she’s not with me I’m all alone Against the wishes of my heart Chorus My heart don’t speak that language You broke it in two After all the time we spent together Can’t face a day without you Solo Repeat chorus So goodbye Goodbye I’m gonna walk away Against the wishes of my heart…. Against the wishes of my heart

Portales 04:19
You ain’t got no money.. your Visa was declined That’s what the cashier told me She said, “You’re holdin’ up the line” The pretty girl behind me rolled her eyes and shook her head I was diggin’ in my jeans for my last ten dollar bill And I wished that I was dead But that’s life in Portales The only place we’re better than is Dallas That’s life in Goober Gulch God help me please I was there buying beer, she was picking up some cheese And while the cashier was engaged in higher mathematics We began to shoot the breeze She said, “I think I know you… Didn’t you work down at Sears”? I said, “Yeah, but that was when I was in high school… During my first Junior year” That’s life in Portales I told her my favorite team was whoever was playin’ Dallas That’s life in Goober Gulch God help me please. solo She said, “I see you bought some Rolling Rock” “Yes mam, that’s the only brand I drink” I said, “I see you purchased some Velveeta” She said, “You bet I did… Them fancy foreign cheeses STINK” That’s life in Portales Who’d a thunk I’d run into Alice That’s life in Goober Gulch God help me please Now, I got a whole lot a so-called sophisticated friends Who turn their nose up at Rolling Rock And those same damn snobby people Go for cheese that tastes like a week old sock This was a match made in heaven... the best day of my life And come next Christmas morning, I’m gonna make her my third wife Merry Christmas from Portales Even baby Jesus ain’t too keen on Dallas Merry Christmas from me and Alice God help us please Rolling Rock…. Velveeta Cheese

Quintanaroo 04:22
The shadow of a ceiling fan sweeps across the floor He stares at the shutters, stays out of view So many reasons, he's forgotten them now But he followed them all to Quintanaroo He'd kill for a cigarette, the Cuervo is gone Nowhere to go, nothing to do So he waits for the chance, slip out with the dawn But dawn takes forever in Quintanaroo Chorus Once it was easy, you could always talk your way out It didn't matter if what you said was true Truth and lies are all the same, hell, everything you knew Don't mean nothing in Quintanaroo From Lupo's cantina music seeps through the door And it plays like a movie there in his head The burning white flash, the look of surprise The cobblestone street, a river of red Chorus He knows that they'll find him, it's just a matter of time No one can save you in Quintanaroo Truth and lies are all the same, hell, everything you knew Don't mean nothing in Quintanaroo No one can save you, in Quintanaroo

Catherine 04:03
Catherine came into this world a little early She came into this world on a prayer Oh, how could anyone that small have any chance at all There is a reason...must be a reason She was born to make a difference She's got something, something to do...something to do Dr. King came to Memphis on a Thursday The garbage men were marching arm-in-arm Those K boys warned him not to come, but King would never run He had a reason...a real good reason He was there to make a difference He had something...something to do...something to do Oh, oh, oh he had something Oh, oh, oh he had something He was there to make a difference He had something...something to do...something to do Something to give...something to share The courage to see it through To make a stand, to carry on Can sometimes move a mountain Look around this world has got some problems The air we breathe..the homeless on our streets Oh, what if you and you and me, if all of us could see There is a reason....we've got a reason And we could make a difference We've got something...something to do...something to do Oh, oh, oh we've got something Oh, oh, oh we've got something Together we could make a difference We've got something...something to do...something to do
